3 Reasons to Sponsor a Local Event

Last weekend, I sponsored and attended a great local event here in lovely Pasadena, MD. ClearShark H2O is a wonderful organization that’s all about protecting and preserving Maryland’s waterways. As a boat owner and a lifelong Maryland resident, this cause is incredibly important to me. Growing up spending so much time on the water, you gain a deep appreciation for all that it provides. I want my kids and their kids to be able to have the same reverence for the Bay and its tributaries as I did. This is why I was proud to be one of the many sponsors of their annual brunch. It makes sense on many levels to contribute to this great organization, which has me wondering why more businesses (not just voice actors) don’t target local events like this.

Here are my 3 reasons for sponsoring a local event:

1. Goodwill

It’s as simple as that. Too often, we become too focused on taking. Take, take, take. It feels good to GIVE. Giving to a cause that’s important to you feels especially good. When you feel good, others around you and your business feel good. It helps strengthen your business image in a very authentic way. Customers love brands that care about spreading positive messages and helping the community. Getting involved locally like this helps you stand out from other bigger brands.

2. Marketing Mentions

When promoting their event, organizers thank their sponsors on different media platforms. This is my kind of publicity! No sleazy car salesmen stuff going on here. Personally, I HATE selling myself. This is a way to get your business out there without obnoxious marketing strategies. Also, when attendees share photos, videos or posts on social media, you get exposure to much larger networks.

3. Business Relationships

We’re all busy. Attending the event itself is a chance to connect face to face with other business owners who share the same passion for a cause. That is incredibly valuable. You can learn so much just by listening. A peek into another business owners world helps to figure out how you might be able to help each other down the road.
